Shop selling second-hand school uniform to re-open due to 'overwhelming demand'

A shop selling second-hand school uniforms is to re-open due to 'overwhelming demand.'.

The Uniform Shop, a pop-up shop in Stockport's Merseyway shopping centre, is to open for a second summer after bosses were inundated with requests from families feeling the pinch.

When it opens its doors for a week next month it will sell 'good quality' recycled items of uniform for schools across the borough for as little as 50p each, a huge saving for crash-strapped parents and guardians, whilst raising money for charity at the same time.

The shopping centre will be accepting donations from Thursday July 27 to Friday, August 11, which can be dropped at the dedicated collection bin in the undercover section of mall outside Specsavers.

All items including sweatshirts, cardigans, blazers, skirts, pinafores, trousers, shorts, polo shirts, shirts, shoes, plimsolls, PE kits and school bags will be accepted. All that is asked is that they are clean and wearable.

The shop will then open from Saturday, August 12 and remain open until Saturday, August 19 while stocks last.

All funds raised will go to the Chelwood Foodbank as well as the Great Ormond Street Hospital and their One Great Day campaign.

Centre Manager, Victoria Nichol said: “We’ve received so many messages across social media urging for The Uniform Shop to return and with the continuous rise in costs for living, we would like to help as many families as possible during these difficult times.

"We were blown away by last year’s response and would like to encourage as many parents as possible to send their child’s grown out school uniform items our way, ready to be recycled and re-worn.”
