Shocked mum's early train station arrival as she gave birth on packed platform

A mum had an early arrival at a crowded train station - when she gave birth to a baby girl next to the platform packed with commuters.

Darcy Rogers, 21, was on her way home from a family shopping trip when she started to feel contractions.

She had just gone through the ticket barriers at Cardiff Central station when the baby started to appear.

Darcy was rushed into a waiting room where new daughter Evie was delivered by proud dad Michael Kenyon.

Darcy said: “We were walking back to the station, and I started having contractions, I just kept going as I wanted to get on the train.”

Darcy and Michael, of Newport, had been on the trip to Cardiff with Amelia-Rose, stepson Kaiden, and youngest sister Lily when the new family member arrived.

Darcy, who was two days before her due date, said: “I was pretty shocked - it was very unexpected.

“Evie’s dad delivered her completely by himself, with help from train staff Sophie McConnell to keep calm in such a mad situation.

“The kids were being distracted by a police officer. He was letting them wear his hat and stuff, which I was very grateful for. The rail staff were absolutely amazing.”

Darcy’s mum Lisa Rogers told how her daughter phoned her from the station.

She said: “I could see that she was on the floor outside. She said ‘mum the baby’s coming’ and then her phone died. We didn’t know where Darcy was.”

Darcy’s sister Jessica rushed to the station with hospital bags and collected the children while Darcy and Evie were taken to hospital.

The mum and new baby were checked at University Hospital Wales, Cardiff,

and both were happy and healthy and are now back home.
