Queensland's Sheffield Shield final hopes have suffered a blow on the opening morning of their final round match against Tasmania with strike bowler Michael Neser ruled out just prior to the start of play.
The Shield's leading wicket-taker suffered an injury during the warm-up at Bellerive Oval with Gurinder Sandhu coming into the line-up.
Queensland won the toss but their decision to bowl first failed to pay dividends during the first session in Hobart.
At lunch, Tasmania reached 1-90 from 30 overs, with opener Caleb Jewell 39 not out and Jake Doran unbeaten on 44.
It was a strong rebound from the home side on a green-tinged wicket after Queensland had struck in just the third over.
Mark Steketee secured an edge from Tim Ward into the hands of Joe Burns at first slip as the opener fell for two.
Second-placed Queensland must at least equal Victoria's result against Western Australia in Perth if they are to secure a spot in next week's season decider.
