Shia LaBeouf has revealed that his mother died as he found himself forced to hit back at Oliva Wilde’s claims she fired him from her film Don’t Worry Darling.

Director Wilde, 38, claimed in an interview with Variety last month that she had let go of LaBeouf, 35, who was originally cast in Harry Styles’ role opposite Florence Pugh.

LaBeouf refuted these claims as he allegedly sent video and email evidence to Variety of conversations with Wilde which showed the director had begged him to stay, seemingly proving he had walked away from the part.

Now, the actor has shared that he was dealing with the devastating circumstance of his mother Shayna Saide’s death at the time of Wilde’s firing allegation.

LaBeouf confirmed the death of Saide to The Hollywood Reporter via email on Thursday, as he said she passed away aged 80 at a Los Angeles hospital.

The star described the “frantic” final moments of his mother’s life as she was “was full of fear” and “asking the doctor what this tube was and what that machine did.”

LaBeouf shared that his greatest gift from his late mother was her spirituality and belief in “the necessity of a relationship with God”. He added: “She was a good girl. She was loved by many and known by too few. God bless you, Momma.”

Unbeknownst to the public, LaBeouf was in mourning when he retaliated to Wilde on August 26 – a day before his mother died – against her claims that she fired him.

The Booksmart director has doubled down on these claims, telling Vanity Fair on Thursday she was taking care of Pugh, 26, during production as she alleges the actress was uncomfortable with LaBeouf’s behaviour.

Wilde said: “My responsibility was towards her. I’m like a mother wolf. Making the call was tricky, but in a way he understood. I don’t think it would’ve been a process he enjoyed.

“He comes at his work with an intensity that can be combative. It wasn’t the ethos that I demand in my productions.

“I want him to get well and to evolve because I think it’s a great loss to the film industry when someone that talented is unable to work.”

Following the disagreement on what went down, LaBeouf told THR: “It is what it is - every blessing to [Wilde] and her film.”
