Sheridan Smith shown support over 'single mum' message as she shares rare video of her son

Sheridan Smith has been shown support after she shared a rare video of her son alongside a message on being a 'single mum'. The award-winning actress and theatre star has been back on-screen as she promotes her latest stage role.

Back in December, Sheridan stripped off to announce her latest role after making a big return to the spotlight. The TV and theatre actress has kept somewhat of a low profile over the last year but did put on a glam and smiley display as she attended the premiere of one of her latest film roles in The Railway Children last summer.

She was also out and about towards the end of the year, as she promoted her new TV series, Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything. The 41-year-old plays vibrant Mancunian Rosie in the Sky Comedy. However, Rosie, an accountant, is out of control, with her addictions to alcohol, recreational drugs and sex destroying her health, relationships and career.

But it was then revealed that the mum-of-one will be returning to London's West End in the late winter/early spring of 2023 in a new production of Shirley Valentine. Sheridan will star in a solo show, which tells the tale of a woman who dreams of escaping her family home, from February 17 for 12 weeks at the Duke of York's Theatre.

Sheridan appeared on The One Show late last week to chat about her new role. And one of the viewers was her young son, Billy, who was filmed getting up close to the TV as his mum chatted to the BBC One show's hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating and saying 'mummy' when she appeared on screen. "He’ll understand one day, my perfect little angel," Sheridan penned.

She added the hashtag 'working mums' before tagging the official Shirley Valentine account and the theatre where she'll be spending three months. "He slept in mummy’s bed when I got home. Major mum guilt!" Sheridan added before sharing: "But we do what we gotta do for our babies. Single mammas x."

Former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here winner Giovanna Fletcher was among the first to respond, writing: "Too cute!!! Xxxx." New mum Stacey Dooley, who welcomed daughter Minnie into the world last month, simply posted a string of heart emojis which was echoed by fellow actress Jamie Winstone.

And Sheridan's followers were quick to offer their words of support. @oysterbayfurniture said: "Don't worry about him sleeping in your bed. Get all the cuddles you can while he'se little. They grow up so fast." @mhairiyoung commented: "Wee soul trying to give you a kissy! Mum guilt is s**t but just remember you’re doing everything you are, purely for Billy - he’s very lucky to have you as his Mummy @sheridansmithster."

@elisehelena_x shared: "He will look back & know that everything you did, you did for him." @pam19x echoed: "Absolutely precious you do it all for that amazing lil man your doing incredible honey." @dani_carver added: "Oh bless him. He’ll be so proud when he’s older and sees how much you do for him."
