Shelbourne have snapped up centre-half Paddy Barrett from rivals St Patrick’s Athletic.
Barrett (29) has signed a one-year deal with the Tolka Park side
Shels boss Damien Duff hailed the arrival of the former Dundalk man, saying: “Paddy has won everything in the game in this country so he is a massive addition to a very young squad.
“Aligned with being a top defender in the League of Ireland, he brings a presence and a personality that we may have lacked before.
“After a difficult season for Paddy last year, he is in the right place to get back to his very best.”
Barrett added: “Really happy to have signed for Shels. I’m looking forward to getting in and meeting the lads and getting stuck into pre-season.
“I’ve spoken a lot to the manager and I feel like it’s the right move for me. I’m keen to be part of it and build on what the club achieved last year.”
Meanwhile, Finn Harps have tied midfielder Ryan Rainey down to a new two-year deal.
The former Bonagee and Wolves man made 33 appearances last season for the Donegal side. He is set to play a major role in their promotion bid next season.
Rainey said: “I’m buzzing to be back. When I met with Dave (Rogers) I was immediately impressed with his thoughts and plans for the club.
“I love being here so to sign a two year deal was a no-brainer for me.
“Last season was very tough for the supporters who were behind us all season even when results weren’t going our way.
“Hopefully now we can rebuild and get back to the Premier Division where we belong.”
New Harps boss Dave Rodgers said: “I’m delighted that Ryan has shown a real commitment in signing a new two-year contract to stay at the club.
“From my first meeting with him I could see how passionate and proud he is to play for his local club and how he really wanted to help us all grow and develop professionally.
“Ryan was a constant performer last season which speaks volumes about his fitness levels and consistency so to tie him down long term is fantastic for us all.”
