Sheikh Mansour sends message to Man City squad after third straight Premier League title

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour sent his congratulations to the squad and staff as they were confirmed Premier League champions for a third straight season.

City were confirmed as champions on Saturday evening, with their only title rivals Arsenal losing at Nottingham Forest. The squad were together at the club's training complex to watch the game at the City Ground, with Taiwo Awoniyi's goal damning the Gunners to consecutive defeats and ending their title hopes.

A much-changed City side cruised past Chelsea on Sunday's coronation, with Julian Alvarez scoring the only goal of the game inside 12 minutes. The Argentinian finished brilliantly after being played through on goal by Cole Palmer, with Pep Guardiola's side able to enjoy the remaining 70-plus minutes under no pressure.

Three more points put the icing on the cake for a third straight title and a fifth in the last six seasons - a feat managed only by Manchester United in the Premier League era beforehand - and owner Sheikh Mansour was on hand to tweet his congratulations to his players shortly after the final whistle.

He tweeted: "We congratulate Manchester City for its deserved crowning of the English Premier League title, for the third time in a row, extending our sincere congratulations to all the players and the technical staff led by Guardiola and the team’s fans everywhere, looking forward to the club continuing its achievements in all tournaments and strengthening its position among the international teams."

City have two more Premier League matches - away at Brighton and Brentford - before preparing for two massive finals. The Blues face their Manchester rivals at Wembley in the FA Cup final on June 3, before meeting Inter Milan in Istanbul a week later for the Champions League final and a potential shot at the treble.
