Sheffield United reveal stance on Leeds United linked midfielder Sander Berge

Sheffield United have yet to receive any formal approach from Leeds United for Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge.

With Kalvin Phillips' future at Elland Road in doubt, centre midfield is a position Leeds are looking to strengthen this summer.

Marc Roca's recent addition from Bayern Munich should help to shore up the Whites in the middle of the park, but Leeds are still keen to strengthen further.

And Berge has been someone Leeds are reportedly interested in signing. However, officials at Bramall Lane have told YorkshireLive that the Whites have made no formal approach for the Norwegian international so far this summer.

Berge is said to be interested in a move away from Bramall Lane this summer. Signed when the Blades were in the Premier League for around £20m, the midfielder dropped down to the Championship with Sheffield following their relegation from the top flight in 2021.

The Blades failed to earn promotion last season from the second tier, losing out in the play-off semi-finals to Nottingham Forest in agonising fashion. Recently, Norway boss Ståle Solbakken said that Berge "does not belong in the Championship", prompting rumours the 24-year-old could be available this summer.

While Sheffield United are unlikely to want to sell the midfielder, their hand could be forced should a significant offer come in for the Norwegian. He has a £35m release fee clause in his contract following the Blades relegation from the Premier League. He will be free to leave should that price be met.
