The British Curry Awards, affectionately known as the 'Curry Oscars', celebrate the restaurants and takeaways where you can get the best curry across the country.
Six Leeds takeaways and restaurants got nominations in last year's awards - and one of them was the Sheepscar Bar & Grill, near Chapeltown. The restaurant and takeaway also boasts having been voted Yorkshire's number one Indian mixed grill before.
So I ordered from the Sheepscar Bar & Grill one evening to test out whether it was worth the good reviews. It has an extensive menu, but I was advised by a flatmate that I had to try the mixed grill.

And indeed, on Deliveroo, the regular grill is denoted as one of the takeaway's most popular dishes. So I ordered that, which is supposed to serve one to two people, and a garlic Naan to go with it.
My order took just over 40 minutes to arrive at my door - which was expected given the driver was having to come further than usual to get to me. The food arrived nice and warm, and with several more boxes than I'd expected.
The grill came in a huge box that was full of lamb chops, Seekh kebabs, chicken tikka and chicken wings, all served with peppers and lemon slices. It also comes with fish pakoras in a separate box.
I also surprisingly received a mint sauce, a chilli sauce and a mango chutney as well as a side salad of green beans and red onion that I hadn't expected to get as part of the meal. So don't let it be said they underfeed you at the Sheepscar Bar & Grill.
I started with the garlic naan, which was a good size. The bread was lovely and soft, with a good taste of garlic; excellent Naan.
And then I moved on to tackle to tackle the mixed grill. I said confidently at the beginning of the meal 'I reckon I'll make it through all of that by myself'.
Spoiler: This turned out not to be true and there is, indeed, a reason they recommend this for one to two people.
All of the meat in the grill was tender, and full of fresh, spicy flavour. The batter on the fish pakoras was lovely and crispy with a soft inside that melted in the mouth.
The standouts, however, were the lamb chops and the chicken Tikka. The yoghurt and spice marinated latter made sure the meat was absolutely bursting with flavour, and the lamb wasn't chewy in the slightest, falling easily off the bone.
The only thing I was slightly disappointed by was the dips - I would've liked a bit more complimentary flavour in them so I had something a bit more saucy to go with all the meat and bread I had ordered. But all in all, the mixed grill did stand up as promised.
It's filling, full of completely different flavours, and the meat is cooked to perfection. If you're looking for an Indian mixed grill in Leeds, you should probably try the one once voted Yorkshire's best.
