Shedeur Sanders, the senior quarterback of the Colorado Buffaloes, had a remarkable day on Friday as he not only won the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award but also set a new record for Colorado's all-time single-season passing yards. Sanders needed 40 yards to surpass Koy Detmer's 28-year-old record of 3,527 yards and achieved this milestone by throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester in the first quarter.

This touchdown pass marked Sanders' 31st of the season, breaking his own school record set just a week ago against Kansas. Sanders continued his impressive performance by throwing another touchdown pass, this time an 11-yarder to Travis Hunter, helping the Buffaloes secure a 21-0 lead going into halftime.

Koy Detmer had previously set the passing record in 1996 during a successful season for the Buffaloes, who finished with a 10-2 record and were ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25. Sanders' exceptional play this season was recognized with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, presented to the nation's top quarterback, hinting at a promising future for the talented player.

Meanwhile, Travis Hunter, a standout player for the Buffaloes, is considered a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. Coach Deion Sanders expressed disappointment earlier in the week when Hunter was not included in the finalist list for the Jim Thorpe Award, which honors the top defensive back in the country.
