Eddie Howe has explained why Shay Given was spotted back in Newcastle United training gear this week.
The goalkeeper left United in 2009 to join Manchester City during the ill-fated Mike Ashley era, but has been a regular back at St James' Park under new ownership. Howe invited Given to share his vast experiences with the Magpies and take part in training last week in the build-up to the Arsenal game.
Howe was keen to get Given to chat to the current squad about his 12 years at Newcastle. The head coach said: "There's certain things we do every day to try to get the players together, having Shay Given in was a brilliant thing this week because of the history with the club.

"It's another way of bringing the players closer to its past and bringing that towards its future."
This season Newcastle have had former stars like Nobby Solano at the training ground to talk in-depth about their experiences on Tyneside. Given said: "Was great to be back at Newcastle's training ground this week and to join in with the keepers was extra special. Thanks to Eddie and his staff for making me feel so welcome."
