The Cincinnati Bengals referee has been assigned for Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, and it will be Shawn Hochuli.
He has only been the head referee for the Bengals three times, games in which the Bengals are 1-2, according to Jay Morrison of Pro Football Network. The last game he was in charge of that Cincinnati played in was last year’s season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where the Bengals lost 23-20 in overtime.
Buy Bengals TicketsIn that game, the only controversial call came when Joe Burrow threw a pass to Ja’Marr Chase from the 13-yard line in which Chase stepped on the goal line and it wasn’t called a touchdown – even though it seemed very likely it was – but the Bengals did not challenge the call. That call didn’t decide the game.
Hochuli’s crew was second last season in penalty flags thrown.
