Sharon Stone 'shocked' Hollywood career never matched Casino success

Sharon Stone expressed her “shock” that her career didn't maintain the momentum she had hoped for following the success of her film Casino.

The actress, 66, received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Ginger McKenna in the 1995 crime epic film, alongside Robert De Niro as Sam "Ace" Rothstein.

Stone revealed that her portrayal of Ginger is the role she takes the most pride in, although she is equally recognised for her portrayal of the femme fatale Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct.

Although she has starred in numerous leading roles, Stone expressed surprise that she has struggled to secure further work.

“I was shocked that I didn’t get to continue to work well, because I did everything to be my very best,” she told The Guardian.

Nowadays, Stone has swapped her attention from film to art, with her artworks selling up to $40,000 per piece – however that doesn’t mean she’s completely turned her back on acting.

When asked if she was done with acting for good, she said: “I'm not saying that. Working as an actress, I absolutely loved it. if someone offers me a substantial role I'll take it. But that's not happening.

“What happens in the business is that once you become a huge seller, they want to put you in small projects, so that you start financing people who want to start their careers. Terrific, but that's not really where I'm at. I want to work with the masters because have earned my place there.”

Stone’s career has faced numerous obstacles, including a stroke caused by a brain hemorrhage in 2001, which inspired her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice.

She was forced to take a career hiatus as a result of the injury and previously told USA Today in 2019: “[When] you find yourself at the back of the line in your business, as I did, [you] have to figure yourself out all over again.”

She has also addressed challenges with misogyny in the industry, most recently disclosing that she faced pressure to engage in sexual activity with her Silver co-star William Baldwin by late Hollywood producer Robert Evans.

Responding to the claims on X, formerly Twitter, Baldwin said: “Not sure why Sharon Stone keep talking about me all these years later?

“Does she still have a crush on me or is she still hurt after all these years because I shunned her advances?”
