A massive model of a shark embedded jaws first into a terraced house is to become an officially recognised structure. The Headington Shark in Oxford was initially put up with planning permission but has now been recognised as a landmark.
Oxford City councillors voted for the 25ft sculpture to join the Oxford Heritage Asset Register alongside 16 other local landmarks. This is despite the objection of the fibreglass shark's owner, Oxfordshire Live reports.
The shark was nominated because of its "historic interest" - it was erected on the anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing - as well as its artistic merits. It was designed to be a protest against planning restrictions and censorship.
