A shark attack that cost a 15-year-old girl her hand and part of her leg has directly led to new federal legislation aimed at preventing similar tragedies. Lulu Gribbin was just 15 when she survived a brutal shark attack off the Florida coast in 2024, losing her left hand and part of her right leg.
Crucially, Gribbin revealed she would never have entered the water had she known another woman had been bitten by a shark just 90 minutes earlier and three miles (4.8 kilometres) down the beach. Her ordeal has now inspired "Lulu's Law," signed last week by President Donald Trump.
