A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a shark attack at a remote beach.

Emergency services responded to Glenfield Beach, north of Geraldton in Western Australia's Midwest, shortly after 9:45am on Monday.

The man, who is in his 50s, was rushed to nearby Geraldton Health Campus under lights and sirens.

A spokesperson confirmed the man was brought to the hospital with a shark bite and was in a serious but stable condition.

The state's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development issued an alert, saying it had received a report of a possible shark incident and was investigating further.

The public were advised to take additional caution in the Glenfield Beach area.

St John Ambulance responded to the area with two ambulances but only one was required, transporting the man as a priority one.
