Shannon Sharpe admits he owes Tom Brady an apology

NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe is doubling down on his take that the New England Patriots had success because of Tom Brady. Sharpe believes that Brady needs more credit for erasing Bill Belichick’s mistakes with his play.

It’s no secret that New England has struggled since Brady’s departure in 2020. Belichick has a 26-29 record without the quarterback. This includes only one postseason appearance and zero playoff wins.

It’s a far-cry from New England’s dynasty that Brady helped create, where the combination of Brady and Belichick tallied six Super Bowls, 16 AFC East titles and 17 playoff appearances.

Now, New England is struggling to find an identity. They were shut out by the New Orleans Saints at home this past Sunday in a 34-0 loss.

“I think I owe [Tom] Brady an apology because I don’t think I gave him enough credit,” Sharpe said on ESPN’s “First Take”. “Because what Brady allowed coach Belichick to do, Brady is the largest eraser in pro sports. Because every mistake that coach Belichick made during those two decades, Brady could erase it.”

Sharpe is ready to give Brady more credit than originally thought, and perhaps he is not too far off-base. One has to wonder what the future of Belichick and the Patriots looks like.
