Gavin Bazunu looks set to seal a switch to Southampton in a €12m deal that could net League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers a seven-figure windfall.
The Saints are closing in on the Ireland goalkeeper, according to reports in the UK.
They are on the lookout for a new netminder following the decision of Fraser Forster to move this summer to Tottenham on a free transfer.
And they have identified the Ireland number one - who is absent from this month’s Nations League games through injury - as their top choice.
Bazunu dazzled last season during his loan spell at Portsmouth, where he was named the club’s Players’ Player of the Season.
According to the reports, the two clubs have been in talks over the transfer for two weeks and are nearing agreement.
Bazunu’s former club Rovers have already made a significant return on his move to City, which brought in an initial fee of €500,000.
They have banked additional cash based on his competitive appearances so far for Ireland, with each cap earning a six-figure sum.
And his transfer this summer would trigger a lucrative sell-on clause.
