Coronation Street's Jacob Hay will have his world rocked when dad Damon arrives on the Cobbles.
Things have seemed fairly quiet for Jacob recently, after he managed to finally win over his girlfriend Amy Barlow's parents, Tracy and Steve McDonald, but now Jacob - played by Jack James Ryan - is set to have his life turned upside down as dad Damon makes his arrival. Ciaran Griffiths will join the show in scenes set to air in the coming weeks.
The actor is well known for a string of roles including The Bill and Shameless. He has also had guest parts in the likes of EastEnders, The Bay and Shameless. He even appeared in Corrie over two decades ago as a different character.
It's been going great for Jacob for a while now. After managing to avoid getting caught up with evil killer and drug dealer Harvey, Jacob has settled into life with his girlfriend Amy. The pair have just moved into a new flat with friends Summer and Aaron.
A new job in the factory, and a new acceptance from all those around him, Jacob is horrified when his father Damon comes looking for him and he is desperate to get him out of there as soon as possible.
But why is Jacob so worried about his dad's arrival - and what's bought him to Weatherfield all of a sudden?
Whilst Damon insists he's here to make things right with his son, a business proposition becomes available and soon Damon starts pushing to help support the Bistro business. Do Nick and Leanne need to watch their backs too?
Speaking about his new role, Ciaran said: "I’m happy to be back in Manchester to see my family and friends after being away in Australia for the last 3 years. The city has changed so much! And what better way to tie it in with a stint on the Cobbles.
"I watched Corrie as a kid and it’s great to be back with some old friends both cast and crew. I’m loving having the opportunity to work with some quality Northern actors whose work I have long admired, particularly on such a complex character like Damon."
Damon's scenes will air in December, over two decades since he originally starred on the ITV soap. Back in 2000, he played criminal Dean Sykes, the younger brother of Linda Sykes, who used a gun to try and rob Freshco.
Coronation Street Producer Iain MacLeod added of Ciaran's arrival as Damon: "Having Ciaran on board is so exciting and especially because the character he is playing is so interesting. Damon is charming and likeable on the surface but we will soon see he is much more complicated than that as he goes on to have an explosive impact, both in Jacob’s life and beyond."
