GURUGRAM: The issue of streetlights dominated MCG’s House meeting on Monday too, with the councillors describing the apparent failure of the civic body officials in installing 200 streetlights in each ward as “a matter of shame for a corporation with an annual budget allocation of Rs 2,500 crore”.
The issue was discussed in the previous House meeting as well, when it was clearly and unanimously decided that 200 streetlights would be provided to each ward. However, the councillors claimed that MCG officials have failed to implement the decision. The House on Monday decided that streetlights should be procured directly through GEM, a government-run e-commerce portal, within 15 days.
In fact, it was ward number 18 councillor Subhash Singla who raised the issue again, claiming that only three streetlights have been installed in his ward to date. On this, MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja sought a report from the engineering wing on the streetlights installed in the ward. MCG executive engineer Vishal Garg said that 13 street lights were installed between April 9 and May 11 this year. On this, Singla said that he had no idea where these lights were installed and who told Garg to install the same.
