The Football League looks set to use VAR in the Championship play-offs this season as the battle to secure promotion to the Premier League intensifies.
Six clubs are all vying to secure a play-off spot with Huddersfield, Forest, Millwall, Middlesbrough, Luton and Sheffield United all in contention. The clubs have given the green light to have VAR in place for the semi-finals and the final, which will be held at Wembley at the end of the month with promotion thought to be worth £195million.
Bournemouth and title-winners Fulham have already booked their place in the Premier League leaving just one more promotion place to be decided. And given the stakes are so high, the EFL is now introducing VAR to help avoid any controversies such as the one that occurred on Tuesday when Sam Surridge was denied a penalty for Forest when brought down by Bournemouth's Mark Travers.
