A whole host of Manchester United supporters slammed referee Clement Turpin after he awarded Barcelona a penalty inside the opening 20 minutes of their Europa League clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The Spanish giants, who arrived in M16 without talented youngsters Gavi and Pedri, were awarded a spot-kick with just 15 minutes on the clock when Bruno Fernandes was deemed to have fouled Alejandro Balde inside the box. The former had a hold of the full-back's arm, dragged him to the ground and referee Turpin did not hesitate in pointing to the spot.
Robert Lewandowski, who was playing at Old Trafford for the very first time in his career, converted the resulting penalty, despite David de Gea getting a hand to the ball and pushing it onto the post. Just as it did at the time, video replays of the coming together between Fernandes and Balde showed that the decision was soft, though it was edging on the careless side from the stand-in Reds captain.

Understandably, United's supporters were furious with the decision, venting their anger at Turpin and UEFA, with certain decisions that did not go in the Reds' favour in the Camp Nou last week still at the forefront of their minds.
