Shakira has received support from Lionel Messi 's wife Antonela Roccuzzo over a post about "betrayal," which has been interpreted as a dig towards her ex Gerard Piqué.
The singer, 45, welcomed the New Year with a post on Instagram, in which she appeared to take a swipe at Gerard, 35 - months after their split was announced.
The post - which mentioned overcoming betrayal and heartache - has prompted supportive messages from some of her followers in the days since it was first uploaded.
This included a response from Antonela, 34 - the wife of footballer Lionel, 35, who had been teammates with Gerard at FC Barcelona. She responded with three heart emojis.
She wasn't alone in responding to the post, with singers Lauren Jauregui, 26, and Leslie Grace, 27, as well as actors Eva Longoria, 47, and Ariana DeBose, 31, among those who liked it.
Shakira wrote in her post: "Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has a surgeon's hands. Even if someone's betrayed us, we must continue to trust others.
"When faced with contempt, continue to know your worth. Because there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference. The ones who leave are fewer than the many who stay by our side.
"Our tears are not in vain, they water the soil our future will spring from and make us more human, so that even while suffering heartache we can continue to love."

It has been interpreted as a swipe against her Gerard, whom she had begun dating in around 2011. They went on to have children Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven, together.
The former couple's separation was announced in June last year. At the time, it was alleged in the press that Gerard had cheated on Shakira.
Gerard - who has played for clubs including Manchester United in his career - was allegedly caught in bed with another woman during his relationship with Shakira.
Following news of their separation, it was reported that Gerard had begun a new relationship. Shakira was said to have been "very angry" over photos relating to such.
