Shakira’s crystal-encrusted guitars, Super Bowl outfits to go on display at Grammy Museum

Dozens of Shakira’s personal items — including her Swarovski crystal-encrusted guitars, two Super Bowl outfits and handwritten lyrics — are coming to the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

Starting March 4, artifacts from the multi-hyphenate artist’s personal archive will be on display in the museum’s permanent Latin Music Gallery.

“Shakira, Shakira: The Grammy Museum Experience,” will explore the singer’s career musical evolution “from her origins as a Latin rock-loving singer-songwriter in Barranquilla, Colombia, to a global superstar whose catalog spans multiple genres, from bhangra and bachata to rock and reggaetón,” according to a news release.

The 45-year-old singer and songwriter — who recorded her first album at 13 — exploded onto the global music scene in the late ‘90s. She has since sold over 85 million records and won multiple awards, including three Grammys, 12 Latin Grammys and seven Billboard Music Awards.

Her latest album, 2017′s “El Dorado” is one of the most-streamed female albums of all time, with over 10 billion streams. She’s also the most-viewed Latin female artist on YouTube, with more than 20 billion views.

Shakira’s ceiling-breaking mainstream success comes from her unique interpretation of her multicultural heritage — she was born to a Colombian mother and a Lebanese father — which captivated audiences across different cultures and opened doors to Latin artists.

“Shakira is the rare superstar who has discovered a way to keep evolving as an artist while growing her expansive audience along with her,” said Jasen Emmons, the museum’s chief curator and vice president of curatorial affairs. “She’s a serious student of music, and the Grammy Museum is excited to offer a dynamic exhibit that reflects her intelligence and artistry.”

The “Hips Don’s Lie” singer said she was honored to have her career displayed at the museum. “These pieces are a testament to so many indelible moments that I cherish, and I’m so happy to be able to relive these memories with those who have and continue to support me as an artist,” she said.
