Pop superstar Shakira and Nigerian sensation Burna Boy have unveiled "Dai Dai", the official song for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, just weeks before the tournament kicks off.
This continues the singer’s long-running relationship with the Fifa World Cup, having first released a song for the tournament back in 2010.
The Colombian singer confirmed the track's release on Friday, sharing her excitement on social media with the caption: "Dai Dai is here. The @fifaworldcup 2026 starts now!" She had previously teased a minute-long clip of the song.
Fifa described "Dai Dai" as a vibrant fusion of global sounds and energy, celebrating football, culture, and unity. Royalties generated from the track will directly support the Fifa Global Citizen Education Fund.
The expanded 2026 World Cup, featuring 48 teams, is set to commence on 11 June, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Adding to the excitement, Shakira is also slated to headline the inaugural World Cup final half-time show, alongside pop icon Madonna and South Korean boy band BTS. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who is curating the landmark performance, revealed the star-studded line-up through a social media video featuring characters from Sesame Street and the Muppets.
The final match is scheduled for Sunday, 19 July, at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Fifa president Gianni Infantino, who first announced plans for the show last March, shared further details on Instagram. This ambitious production could see the half-time interval extend beyond the traditional 15 minutes.
The show aims to raise 100 million US dollars for the Fifa Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative dedicated to expanding access to education and football for children globally.
Half-time entertainment has become a significant feature of major US sporting events, notably the Super Bowl, where Madonna performed in 2012 and Shakira shared the stage with Jennifer Lopez in 2020. The MetLife Stadium also hosted a Fifa half-time show last summer during the Club World Cup final.
“Dai Dai” follows on from Shakira’s previous World Cup songs, “La La La” from the 2014 tournament in Brazil and “Waka Waka” for the 2010 tournament in South Africa. “Waka Waka” went on to become a hit in it’s own right and has since sold more than 4 million copies, becoming the best-selling World Cup song ever.
