Shakhtar chief offers to re-sign Mykhailo Mudryk as Chelsea eye Mbappe and Vincius transfer plan

Shakhtar Donetsk director Darijo Srna has, with in tongue and cheek, claimed that he will one day try to re-sign Mykhailo Mudryk. The 22-year-old winger was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal at the start of last month, only for the Blues to swoop in and hijack the deal at the eleventh hour.

Talks between the north Londoners and Shakhtar were thought to have initially progressed well with Edu tabling a bid of €70million (£62million), including €30million (£26million) worth of add-ons. Arsenal stay in contact with the Ukrainian side and there was once confidence that they were going to win the race for Mudryk's signature.

But, then, Chelsea matched the Gunners' bid, which was revealed to be a better structured offer — just hours later Mudryk was unveiled to supporters at Stamford Bridge. The youngster has shown great promise since arriving in the Premier League but he's struggled to integrate himself into a disjointed environment, with Graham Potter under pressure.

Speaking to the Football Ramble podcast, Srna explained why Shakhtar gave Mudryk such a large price tag. He said: "The market decided the price, not me or our president. Mudryk is one of the best players in Europe in his position after [Kylian] Mbappe or Vincius [Junior] then it’s Mudryk.

"If someone wants to buy a player from Shakhtar they must respect us. We know how to sell players and how to buy players. He’s from our academy, an amazing kid, an amazing player.

"Unfortunately, at Chelsea now he’s not in a good mood, Mykhaylo as well, but he has all the qualities to be one of the best players in the Premier League in the next couple of years."

Then, later in the podcast, the host consoled Srna and said that she was sorry he had to sell Mudryk. The Shakhtar director replied: "It’s no problem, we will buy him back after the war. We will buy him back after the war."

Upon confirmation of Mudryk's move to Chelsea, Potter expressed his delight at signing the winger. As quoted by Tribuna, the Blues boss said: "He is a young player with exciting quality in the final third. He is very fast and direct and I think the crowd will like him."

Then, later in a press conference, Potter added: "In terms of what he brings, he’s a player with a big future, exciting, one vs one, he's very direct, he attacks the back-line, can go into wide areas but also affects the goal. A really exciting player and I think our supporters will really like him."
