Sha’Carri Richardson won her first individual race of the 2023 track and field season, clocking at a legal-wind time of 10.77 seconds at the Miramar Invitational on Saturday.
Richardson dashed through the 100-meter sprint in Miramar, Fla., with an official time of 10.57 seconds. However, when factoring in the wind, it results to 10.77 seconds. Her time, without factoring in the wind component, marked the third-fastest 100-meter race all-time, sitting behind Elaine Thompson-Herah (10.54 seconds) in 1992 and Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49) in ’59.
The 23-year-old completed her first race of the year last Saturday in the 4x100 at the Texas Relays at in Austin, Texas, where she finished second. Richardson’s race comes nearly 10 months after missing out on the finals of the 100 meters and 200 meters at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
As a result, she did not compete in the 2022 World Athletics Championships. In 2021, Richardson won the women’s 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials with a time of 10.86 but was suspended for one month by the United States Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for marijuana. The suspension effectively ruled her out from competing in the the Tokyo Olympics.
