The hotly-anticipated Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That..., hit screens on Thursday – and a shock plot twist left unsuspecting fans “ugly crying.”

One person’s reaction was so severe that their husband thought the dog had died.

Spoilers ahead...

The hints of a death were already on the cards when the cast was spotted filming a funeral scene earlier this year. But much to people’s theories and conclusions, it wasn’t Kim Cattrall’s iconic on-screen character, Samantha Jones.

Instead, Carrie Bradshaw’s husband, Mr Big, suffered a cardiac arrest following an intense workout on his Peloton bike.

Throughout the episode, Big, played by Chris Noth, often referred to his favourite Peloton instructor, Allegra, and his thousandth ride using the exercise bike.

While Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) attended a piano recital for Charlotte’s daughter, Big headed to his post-shower workout, where he clutched his shoulder and collapsed.

“And just like that, Big died,” the episode concluded.

The mood soon transitioned from excitement for the reboot to floods of tears. Naturally, everyone headed over to Twitter for a much-needed debrief.

Peloton has since released a statement to explain that the fictional character’s death resulted from his “extravagant lifestyle.”

Dr Suzanne Steinbaum, a member of Peloton’s health and wellness advisory council and a preventative cardiologist, told the Los Angeles Times: “I’m sure SATC fans, like me, are saddened by the news that Mr Big dies of a heart attack.

“Mr Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle – including cocktails, cigars, and big steaks – and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in season six.

“These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death.”

Steinbaum added: “Riding his Peloton Bike may have even helped delay his cardiac event.

“More than 80 per cent of all cardiac-related deaths are preventable through lifestyle, diet and exercise modifications. And while 25 per cent of heart attacks each year are in patients who already had one (like Mr Big), even then they are very, very treatable.”

The ten-part series airs every Thursday on HBO Max (US), Sky Comedy and NOW TV (UK).
