Officials at Severn Trent have issued a statement over reports of rising water rates.
Severn Trent have addressed talk on social media about cost hikes saying that the average household bills will increase by 7.1 percent, which is £26 per year or around £2.25 per month.
The average household bill for water and sewerage in 2022/2023 will be around £389 per year, the company added.
A spokesperson for the water provider said: “Severn Trent customers will continue to get all of their clean and wastewater services for around £1 per day, keeping household bills one of the lowest in England and Wales.
“However, we know this is still a challenging time for many of our customers, especially for those whose circumstances have changed during the pandemic.
"That’s why we have a number of schemes available, to support customers who need a bit of help with their bill."
Customers who are unable to meet the cost of water charges and who live in the Severn Trent area can apply for help directly and to organisations that work in the area of debt advice. The fund has supported approximately 600,000 customers to date, the water provider confirmed.
And for a household income below £16,385, The Big Difference Scheme could offer a reduction of water bills.
Another scheme WaterSure helps to cap customer bills at the average yearly charge.
It comes amid the cost of living crisis with inflation at a near 30-year high as energy bills and tax rise.
The average gas and electricity bill in the UK is set to increase to a maximum of £1,971 - an increase of £693 a year, energy industry regulator Ofgem has said.
