Parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas are currently under severe weather watches as a storm system in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring high winds, hail, and possible tornadoes to the region. The National Weather Service issued warnings and alerts as the storm approached.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms have been moving across Louisiana and the Gulf waters, with Southeast Texas currently in the clear. The weather service urged residents to stay safe and vigilant during this time.

Earlier, a tornado warning was issued for parts of Texas northeast of Houston, indicating the presence of a tornado in the area. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage.

The inclement weather led to flight delays and cancellations at major airports in the region. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Dallas Love Field, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston all experienced disruptions due to the storm.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott activated state emergency response resources in response to the severe weather threat. He emphasized the importance of monitoring road conditions, creating emergency plans, and following guidance from officials, especially for holiday travelers.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center highlighted the greatest risk for severe weather in a stretch of Texas east of Dallas, between Houston and parts of southern Arkansas and western and northern Louisiana. The main threats include high winds, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes.

Wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph and hail of 1 inch or greater in diameter are expected. The storms are forecasted to move into southern Arkansas and western and northern Louisiana, posing a potentially dangerous situation for travelers, particularly during the night.

Officials are urging caution and preparedness as the severe weather system continues to impact the region. Stay informed, stay safe, and follow all guidance provided by authorities during this challenging weather event.
