Several teams sought trade for Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins before deadline

The Arizona Cardinals did not end up making any deals before the NFL trade deadline this past Tuesday. They did make a deal a couple of weeks before the deadline, acquiring receiver Robbie Anderson. There were no reports of potential trades for the Cardinals to move players on  their roster, at least till now.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, general manager Steve Keim took “a flurry of trade calls” seeking to acquire wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

According to several people with knowledge of the situation, Keim was unwilling to move Hopkins. What’s unclear is if Keim wasn’t doing a deal at any price or if teams simply didn’t meet his price.

Keim was not actively shopping Hopkins and it is fairly common for teams with losing records to receive trade calls about their best players.

The Cardinals have not shown any desire to deal Hopkins. They had been waiting for his return from a six-game suspension.

Since his return, he has had two 10-catch, 100-yard games, totaling 22 catches for 262 yards and a score.

His return has sparked the Arizona offense, which had struggled most of the season without their top playmaker.

Hopkins has two years remaining on his contract and is now 30 years old.
