Early Saturday morning, a devastating bus crash on Interstate 20 near Vicksburg, Mississippi, resulted in the loss of seven Mexican travelers' lives and left dozens more injured. The incident occurred when a commercial passenger bus, operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, experienced tire failure and rolled over off the highway.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the crash, focusing on factors such as motor carrier safety and tire maintenance. The bus, a 2018 Volvo, was en route from Atlanta to Dallas when the tragedy struck near Bovina.
Among the victims were siblings aged 6 and 16, as confirmed by Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey. Thirty-seven passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson for treatment.
Autobuses Regiomontanos, a company specializing in transporting passengers between Mexico and the United States, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. The company ensures that all passengers pass through proper immigration checkpoints and present valid identification documents before boarding.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that six passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, with another succumbing to injuries at a hospital. The bus, which ended up in a ditch, saw many passengers ejected during the rollover.
