More than a quarter of Brits (28%) think that a cardiac arrest is the same thing as a heart attack – with seven in ten not realising that a person is clinically dead at the point of arrest.
A cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating, and is seen as the ultimate medical emergency – with nine in ten arrests occurring out of hospital resulting in death.
Meanwhile, a heart attack will disrupt blood supply to the organ, but the heart typically continues to beat.
