Police have today launched an appeal for information after a serious road crash in East Ayrshire which left two people in hospital.
Officers from Irvine's roads policing unit are trying to piece together the events of yesterday morning on a stretch of the A71 between Hurlford and Galston.
The incident happened around 8.40am and involved a red Toyota Hilux pick-up, towing a trailer; a Honda Civic car and a pedestrian.
Police say the 48-year-old male pedestrian was taken by air ambulance to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the 69-year-old male occupant of the Honda was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. The driver of the Toyota pick-up was not injured.
Motorists who witnessed the incident, or have any information which could help the investigation, have been asked to come forward.
Officers are especially keen to speak with the driver of a tractor who was driving past the location in the direction of Hurlford around the same time.
Emergency services raced to the scene with the road closed for two hours as an air ambulance was dispatched.

He said: “If you believe you can assist our investigation, or you were in the area and have yet to speak with police, please call 101, quoting incident 0624 of 7 June, 2022.”
