A663 reopen after serious crash near Oldham

A large emergency response was called to the scene of a serious crash in Oldham.

The A663 (Broadway) was cordoned off in both directions shortly after 6pm on Tuesday evening (March 1).

Two cars are reported to have been involved in the crash, which occurred at around 6.20pm on the main road.

There are unconfirmed reports that one of the vehicles had driven through a red light prior to the incident.

Traffic was diverted by officers at the scene, with heavy traffic building on Denton Lane and Fold Green diversions.

A large police presence was at the scene carrying out enquiries - with the closure stretching between Whitegate Lane to Newman RC School.

Officers from the serious collision unit and paramedics also attended, but the condition of casualties is not yet known.

Police have not yet confirmed if there have been any arrests in relation to the incident.

Pictures from the scene show a visibly damaged white Suzuki Swift that was involved.

An update from traffic service Inrix said that two vehicles had been involved in the smash.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 6.20pm on Tuesday 1 March 2022, police received a report of a collision on Broadway, Oldham.

"Officers are currently in attendance.

"Anyone with information should contact police quoting 2397 01/03/22 via gmp.police.uk."

Transport for Greater Manchester reported that the road had reopened shortly before 5.30am this morning
