Sergio Aguero names difference between Man City and Champions League opponents Bayern Munich

Sergio Aguero reckons Erling Haaland can be the key difference for Manchester City against Bayern Munich when they lock horns in the Champions League quarter-finals next month - but admits his former employers will need more to go all the way this season.

Having effectively replaced Aguero one year after his City departure, Haaland - who cost £51million when he signed from Borussia Dortmund - has totted-up a staggering 42 goals for his new team in 37 games including 10 in the marquee European competition. Having spent two-and-a-half years in Germany, the Norway forward knows all about Bayern and Aguero is tipping his impact to be decisive.

Aguero, 34, gave City their first Premier League title when he netted in the most dramatic circumstances on the final day of the 2011/2012 season. He went on to pick up another four top-flight medals, as well as scoring a club-record 260 goals before moving to Barcelona and retiring.

However, similarly to his esteemed teammates over his time with the club, European honours eluded him as City continue their Champions League charge against Bayern this campaign. Writing about that showdown in his Stake.com blog, Aguero said: "They know Haaland well enough and they know what he can do.

"None of this should come as a big surprise to them. The main difference is that he's in a team like City now, which has a great offensive playing style with many possible variations. They need to figure out how to stop the whole team, though, not just Haaland."

Aguero added: "City needed a striker with clinical finishes in the last yards and that's the type of addition that they were wanting. But a single player can never guarantee a title, it's about the team.

"Their [City's] main weapon is them having that strong collective play."
