Serena and Venus Williams back in doubles action at Cincinnati Open

  • Serena and Venus Williams lost 2-6 6-1 10-8 to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns at the Cincinnati Open in their first doubles match together in four years.
  • The defeat was sealed by a Venus Williams double fault on match point after the sisters had staged a comeback from 6-0 down in a deciding 10-point tie-break.
  • The match was the pair's first competitive doubles appearance since the 2022 US Open following delays caused by Serena's knee injury at Wimbledon.
  • Serena Williams said it was special and fun to play together again, emphasising that enjoying the moment was more important than winning the tournament.
  • With 30 Grand Slam singles titles between them, the sisters require wildcards to compete in either singles or doubles at the upcoming US Open starting on 30 August.
