Serbia have threatened to pull out of Euro 2024 if alleged offensive chanting by Albania and Croatia fans is not punished.
Supporters from both nations have been accused of singing anti-Serbian songs during Wednesday’s dramatic Group B clash in Hamburg, which ended as a 2-2 draw.
Reports allege that some Albania and Croatia fans could be heard chanting “kill, kill, kill the Serb” and the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) have now demanded that action be taken by UEFA.
“First of all, I want to thank our fans for their support in the match against England and I hope we will beat Slovenia [on Thursday],” general secretary of the FSS, Jovan Surbatovic, is quoted as telling Serbian broadcaster RTS by The Telegraph.
“What happened is scandalous and we will ask UEFA for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition.
“We will demand from UEFA to punish the federations of both selections. We do not want to participate in that, but if UEFA does not punish them, we will think how will we proceed.
“We were punished for isolated cases and our fans behaved much better than the others.”
In an apparent reference to the illicit banner, he added: “One fan was punished for racist insults and we don’t want it to be attributed to others.
“We Serbs are gentlemen and we have an open heart, so I appeal to the fans to remain gentlemen.”
Serbia are currently under investigation themselves by UEFA after allegations that England players were subjected to monkey chants from Serbian fans during the first half of their Group C match in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday night.
UEFA fined the Albanian and Serbian football federations €10,000 (£8,500) each on Wednesday for fans displaying banners with nationalist maps.
Each federation was charged with “transmitting provocative messages not fit for a sports event”.
Albania fans displayed a banner with a map of their country extending its borders into the territory of neighbouring countries during the 2-1 loss against Italy in Dortmund on Saturday night.
The Serbia fans' banner seen during the England game included the independent territory of Kosovo and a slogan reading: “No Surrender”.
A case was pursued by FIFA at the 2022 World Cup when players were photographed with a similar banner in their dressing room ahead of a game against Brazil. The Football Federation of Kosovo has also filed a formal complaint to UEFA.
The Albanian Football Federation was fined a further €27,375 (£23,100) for fans lighting flares and fireworks, throwing beer cups and for a fan who went on the pitch. Serbia's FA must pay €4,500 (£3,800) more for fans throwing beer cups.
