Sensible to go where India gets best oil deal, says external affairs minister

NEW DELHI: Foreign minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday while the government doesn’t ask Indian companies to purchase Russian oil, it’s a sensible policy to go where India gets the best deal in the interest of its people. He also said India’s concerned about what impact the price cap on Russian oil will have on energy affordability and stability.

Briefing parliament about developments related to India’s foreign policy, the minister also said India’s endeavour is to build consensus within the G20, champion causes especially of the Global South, and shape the setting of its agenda. He said the G20 presidency will also be an occasion for India to highlight the 3Ds of India: Development, Democracy and Diversity.
