Older adults who get primary care at about 150 CenterWell Senior Primary Care clinics will soon have a new majority owner behind their doctor's office. Humana announced on Oct. 13 that funds managed by HPS Investment Partners, part of BlackRock, will buy private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe's stake in the clinics, a stake valued at about $2.8 billion.
The news came two days before Medicare's annual open enrollment period began on Oct. 15, when millions of seniors review their health coverage. CenterWell will remain a minority owner and keep managing the clinics, and Humana says there will be no changes to patient care, according to Healthcare Dive's report on the joint venture.
