A senior Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a woman.

Superintendent Jamie Gordon is due to appear in the dock at Westminster magistrates court on Wednesday over allegations dating back to December last year.

It is alleged the officer tried to rape the woman and sexually assaulted her in an incident on December 19, 2023.

Gordon, of Rochester, Kent, is further alleged to have sexually assaulted the same woman on December 8, 2023.

Scotland Yard said Gordon, who is attached to the South East Command Unit, was arrested on January 19 and has been suspended from duty ever since.

He was charged with three offences on November 4.

The Met and the Crown Prosecution Service kept news of the criminal charges under wraps until today, a day before his scheduled appearance in court.

Gordon is due in court at 10am for a hearing when he may be asked to indicate pleas, before directions are made on the future of the criminal case.
