Veteran Liberal senator Simon Birmingham has unveiled his new gig after revealing he would step down from federal politics in a shock announcement.

In late November, the coalition's upper chamber leader announced he will leave parliament at the 2025 federal election, putting an end to almost two decades in politics for a new role that was officially revealed on Thursday.
