A Conservative councillor has been suspended and reported to the police after allegedly assaulting her election agent.
A spokesman for the party has confirmed that Councillor Rowena Bass, the leader of the Conservative Group on Kingston council, has been suspended pending an investigation.
Cllr Bass is alleged to have left her agent’s face bruised following a physical assault after a verbal confrontation on Tory office premises in East Sheen.
An email from the Richmond Park and North Kingston Conservative Association says that the matter “has been reported to the police and remains under investigation”, according to LBC.
A weekly newsletter sent to Conservative members reminded them of a “zero-tolerance policy towards abuse, intimidation or threatening behaviour directed at staff or volunteers” following an “assault of our Association Manager”.
Cllr Bass has represented Coombe Hill ward since 2014, and was the Conservative parliamentary candidate in Bootle at the last General Election, where she finished fourth with 4.3 per cent of the vote.
A Conservative Party spokesman said: "Cllr Rowena Bass has been suspended from the Conservative Party pending investigation into these allegations.
“This process is rightly confidential and we will not be commenting further."
The Standard has also contacted Cllr Bass and the Met Police for comment.
