Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley and Utah Sen. Mike Lee recently attended a meeting with Vice President-elect JD Vance and President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, Matt Gaetz, inside the Senate. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming confirmation hearing for Gaetz.
During the meeting, both Republican senators expressed their views on the confirmation process. Hawley emphasized the importance of allowing Gaetz to address the misconduct allegations against him by answering questions under oath. He stated, 'My view is that we ought to move forward with this, do the hearing, let him respond to everything under oath. Give him a shot.'
Lee echoed Hawley's sentiments, highlighting that the confirmation hearing would provide Gaetz with an opportunity to address the allegations directly. 'He’s denied everything, but the hearing is an opportunity for him to, under oath in front of everybody, walk through it,' Lee remarked.
Hawley further disclosed that he had already spoken to Gaetz over the phone and maintained regular communication with Trump. However, he refrained from divulging specific details of their conversations.
The confirmation hearing for Gaetz is expected to be a significant event, allowing him to address the allegations against him and present his case before the Senate. The outcome of the hearing will play a crucial role in determining Gaetz's suitability for the position of attorney general.
