Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was involved in a car accident on Sunday morning, resulting in a bruised shoulder. According to a statement from his Senate office, Fetterman and his wife Gisele were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. They were both taken to a local hospital for evaluation and were discharged later in the day. Fetterman, a Democrat, has since returned to his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, and is expected to resume his Senate duties this week.
The accident occurred on Interstate 70 in Maryland, with Fetterman behind the wheel. The condition of the other driver involved in the collision remains unclear at this time.
Senator Fetterman, 54, had previously suffered a stroke in May 2022 while campaigning for his seat. As a result of the stroke, he continues to experience challenges with speaking fluently and processing spoken conversation quickly. To assist with communication, Fetterman often utilizes devices during congressional hearings and everyday conversations to transcribe spoken words in real time.
