Senator Tim Scott, a Republican from South Carolina, is actively engaging in outreach to the Black community amidst claims from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, a Democrat, that he does not believe former President Trump is gaining traction with Black voters.
During a news conference on Tuesday, Mayor Johnson expressed skepticism about Scott's efforts, suggesting that there may be a reason why Scott was not chosen as the vice president despite Trump's purported attempts to connect with African Americans. Johnson stated, 'I don't buy that. I just don't.'
Responding to Johnson's remarks at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin, Scott confidently stated, 'Well, November 5th, you will have to buy it. It'll be sold.'
Scott, who recently hosted an event at the RNC focused on voter outreach within the Black community, emphasized the importance of effectively communicating the Republican message. He expressed optimism that with proper marketing, Trump could witness the highest turnout of African-American voters since his presidential campaign began.
While acknowledging the challenges Republicans face in appealing to Black women, whom he described as the most loyal and fierce Democratic voters, Scott highlighted the distinctiveness of Black male voters.
A recent University poll revealed a significant decline in support for President Biden among Black voters in key swing states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania compared to the previous election. Biden's lead over Trump among Black voters has decreased from 64 points in July 2020 to 42 points currently.
