Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has thrown his support behind Representative Kat Cammack of Florida for the position of House Republican Conference Chair. The endorsement comes as House Republicans gear up for leadership elections scheduled for Wednesday.
In a statement, Senator Paul praised Cammack as a staunch defender of liberty with a proven track record of advocating for American freedoms. He emphasized her commitment to upholding the Constitution, citing her as the ideal candidate for the House Conference Chair role.
The current House Republican Conference Chair, Elise Stefanik of New York, was recently chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. This vacancy has prompted Cammack, along with other House Republicans such as Lisa McClain of Michigan and Erin Houchin of Indiana, to vie for the House GOP Conference Chair position.
Stefanik assumed the role after the removal of Representative Liz Cheney in 2021. Cammack expressed optimism about the upcoming 119th Congress, highlighting a sense of unity and determination among House Republicans to deliver on their campaign promises.
Meanwhile, in the Senate, Senator Rick Scott of Florida, Senator John Cornyn of Texas, and Senator John Thune of South Dakota are competing for the position of Senate GOP Leader. Senator Paul recently announced his support for Scott, citing concerns over the current unsustainable $2 trillion annual deficits.
The stage is set for a pivotal week in Congress, with House and Senate Republicans preparing to cast their votes for key leadership positions on Wednesday.
