Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullins recently shared his thoughts on his Senate colleague and Vice President nominee JD Vance, describing him as a 'smart guy' while acknowledging their differing opinions on certain matters.
When questioned about Vance's stance on foreign policy, particularly regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Mullins expressed confidence in Vance's ability to evolve. He noted that Vance has demonstrated a capacity to acquire knowledge and adjust his positions, citing his shift in support towards President Trump as an example.
Vance, a junior senator from Ohio, has been vocal in his criticism of providing aid to Ukraine in the face of Russia's invasion. He has also taken a stance similar to Trump's by questioning NATO's defense spending and making controversial remarks, such as suggesting that the United Kingdom could become an Islamist country with nuclear capabilities under a new Labour government.
The nomination of Vance has dashed hopes among some of America's allies that a potential reelection of Trump might lead to a more moderate foreign policy approach.
