Sen. John Thune Elected Senate Majority Leader By Republicans

President-elect Donald Trump congratulated Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., after the lawmaker won election to serve as the next Senate Republican leader. Republicans secured the majority in both the House and Senate during the 2024 elections. Trump expressed his congratulations to Senator Thune on Truth Social, praising his swift actions and predicting his exceptional performance in the new role.

Sen. Rick Scott of Florida and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas were also contenders for the Senate Republican leader position. Despite the outcome not being as desired, Scott pledged full support to ensure Thune's success in advancing President Trump's agenda. Cornyn echoed a similar sentiment, emphasizing unity among Republicans to push forward Trump's policies.

Thune is set to take over from current Senate Republican Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who opted not to seek another term in the position. Trump expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Thune and the other senators chosen for key Senate Republican leadership roles.

In his statement, Trump mentioned his anticipation of working with Thune, Sen. John Barrasso (Senate Majority Whip), Sen. Tom Cotton (Senate Republican Conference Chairman), Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (Senate Republican Policy Committee Chairman), Sen. James Lankford (Republican Conference Vice Chairman), and Sen. Tim Scott (National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman) to advance the agenda of 'MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!'

During his remarks, Thune emphasized the commitment of Republican senators to cooperate with their House counterparts in implementing Trump's agenda.
