Selfridges are hosting a cocktail party with Santa

A visit to see Father Christmas is a festive staple, but now one Manchester department store is giving shoppers the chance to celebrate the most wonderful time of year by sharing some cocktails with the big man himself.

Selfridges at Manchester Exchange Square are hosting three Cocktails with Santa events next week and there's plenty of surprises in store. The adult-only event promises a festive evening of cocktails, small plates and merrymaking, joined by Santa Claus, his trusty elf and the totally fabulous drag queen, Narcissa Nightshade.

The evening will be co-produced by Selfridge's partners Eat Well MCR, led by acclaimed chef Mary-Ellen McTague, in collaboration with 10 Tib Lane and Caroline Martins. Mary-Ellen and Caroline Martins have devised a showstopping menu of small plates including riffs on roast turkey and decadent desserts, while Manchester bar, 10 Tib Lane, have devised a accompanying cocktail menu including a boozy eggnog concoction.

By purchasing a ticket, guests are supporting the local community, as this series of events is helping to fund 3,000 meals to support Eat Well MCR's mission. Eat Well MCR is a collective of Manchester-based chefs and hospitality professionals working to provide meals to children and families experiencing homelessness, women taking refuge in sheltered accommodation, parents of long-term sick children, food banks and schools supporting families experiencing food poverty.

The MCR mission aims to help to provide fresh, nutritious and delicious food prepared by chefs, and to feed NHS workers and people facing food inequality in the community, following the pandemic and during the cost of living crisis.

Eat Well recently hosted a banquet at Hello Oriental, which saw some of Manchester’s finest South-East Asian restaurants come together in a bid to raise money to help beat food poverty in the city. Upscale Chinese eatery Tattu and newcomer Neon Tiger were among those getting together for the fundraiser, alongside Mackie Mayor’s New Wave Ramen, city favourite Tampopo, and Rice Over Everything, makers of fine chilli oils.

The Cocktails with Santa event will also feature a festive soundtrack, plus games, and fabulous Selfridges prizes. Tickets are priced at £60 per person (including alcohol) or £50 per person (non-alcoholic), which includes four drinks and accompanying small plates.
